More than 2,200 protesters have been arrested on university campuses across the United States in recent weeks. In many of these incidents, police have been accused of resorting to violent methods. There has also been an incident of ‘accidental’ police firing at Columbia University.

No one was injured in a shooting at Columbia University’s Hamilton Hall, the New York Police Department said Thursday. A policeman was trying to turn on the flashlight attached to his gun. Then a bullet hit the wall of the hall. However, the district attorney’s office is reviewing the incident.

According to an Associated Press statistic, at least half a hundred arrests were made at 40 universities or colleges in the United States from April 18 to yesterday. More than 2,200 protesters have been arrested in these operations. Among them, more than a hundred protesters were arrested from Columbia University alone.

Such massive student protests across the United States have not been seen in this century. Iranian state television broadcast live footage of the police raid on the UCLA campus; As did the Qatar-based television channel Al-Jazeera. Several Israeli television networks also broadcast live footage of the operation in Los Angeles.

Police raided the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) yesterday morning. At that time, when they were asked to leave the campus, the protestors ignored it. At least 200 people were arrested then.

Protesters at other universities, such as UCLA, are also calling on their institutions to stop doing business with Israel or with organizations that support the war on Gaza. At the same time, the Israelis are calling on the United States to “separate from genocide”.

Israel has called the student protests anti-Semitism. However, Israel’s critics say that the country’s accusations are aimed at silencing the opposition.

The student movement at Columbia University, the center of the ongoing protests, began on April 17. They are demanding an end to Israel’s war in Gaza. More than 34,500 people have been killed so far in the hellish operation of the Israeli forces in the Palestinian Valley that started on October 7. Most of them are women and children.
