Who is getting priority for recruitment in Jahangirnagar University?

Nepotism and party influence have become important in many cases in the appointment of teachers and in the appointment of officials.  A distant niece of Jahangirnagar University Vice-Chancellor Nurul Alam was appointed as a lecturer in the finance and banking department in July last year. Md Shawkat Hossain was the president of finance and banking department at that time. Before he left the office of the president, a recruitment board was set up and the teacher was appointed on July 5 last year. After that, he left his post. The vice chancellor of Jahangirnagar University said that I cannot say anything about the appointments that were made before I took charge, but during my time, no relative- Relatives or party people are not appointed.

Jahangirnagar University Vice Chancellor Nurul Alam said this. Daily Star News went to campus and talked to 21 teachers regarding irregular recruitment of teachers in different departments of Jahangirnagar University. 

What role is played by the administration of Jahangirnagar University:

 There are three faculty deans of the university, five department chairmen and senate officers. They said that kinship and good relations with teachers in various senior positions have been important in the recruitment of teachers and staff for many years. These things have become important in the appointment of education officers with whom and what relationship. This trend continues even with the current device. Daily Star News’ investigation showed that the current vice-chancellor Nurul Alam has appointed at least 45 to 50 teachers in various departments for the past two years, out of which 16-17 teachers have been appointed. When Farzana Islam was the vice-chancellor, there were rumors of irregularities in the appointment of teachers in various departments. At that time, it was seen that more than one person in the same family was appointed as a teacher. The university teachers protested by questioning all its appointments. 

Jahangirnagar University one after another misdeeds are going on, the administration is in a roleless state:

Professor Raihan Rine of the Department of Philosophy said that the corruption of arbitrariness in recruitment has been going on for a long time. There is no denying it. If qualified people are not appointed as teachers, it will become critical for the university. The university will suffer many losses.

 Two teachers were appointed as lecturers in plant science in 2022 after the appointment of the present vice-chancellor. This appointment caused various conversations. 17 teachers objected to the university for stopping the recruitment process. And even after the temporary appointment of two teachers as lecturers, they demanded their cancellation. Wrote a letter to the vice chancellor. But the Vice-Chancellor Nurul Alam did not pay any attention to any demand. The academic committee of the concerned department decides whether there is a need to appoint a teacher in any department of Jahangirnagar University. However, various relatives and party people are appointed. This is the doctrine of 17 teachers.

They said there was no age limit for the appointment of two expatriate teachers. The age limit for university recruitment is usually between 33 and 34. But the two teachers who were appointed are 38 years old and the other 41 years old.They claimed that they were not relatives or party people. Those who are qualified to become teachers are the only ones who can become university teachers. Besides, not other people.

Jahangirnagar University has no security system:

Prior to the appointment of two lecturers, Md. Nu Alam, who was the president of various departments of the jahangirnagar university of science department, told Darius Ta News on the phone that there is a vacancy for a cooperation professor in the department. Two publishers were appointed despite the fact that the path of associate professor was vacant. The matter was not taken up in the Demic Committee alone due to the teachers’ objection. When the suggestion of the vice-chancellor Farzana Islam to take two lecturers give a note opinion. According to the opinion then notification was given. However, two people were appointed at the time of the present one. The name of one of the two people appointed is Shamima Akhter. The name of the other is Farhana Rahman.

She is the wife of Professor Kamruzzaman of Zoology Department. The teachers said that Farhana Rahman’s husband is close to the university’s proctor ASM Feroz Ul Hasan. The current president of the Department of Botany is Saleh Ahmed Khan. He told Daily Star News that there was no need to appoint teachers. There was no use in telling the matter to the Vice-Chancellor. He didn’t care.The discussion among the university teachers is basically that teachers have appointed their teachers to strengthen themselves in politics.

Preference of relatives and party people in recruitment:

In the last 6 years, four students have been appointed in the Department of Journalism and Media Studies. Among them, three students are relatives of some lecturers. Two of them are relatives of professors of this university. The elder brother of one of those who got appointed is Associate Professor of English Department of Jahangirnagar University. Later, the teacher’s husband was appointed as a teacher of the English department. These appointments were given from March 2014 to March 2022. These appointments were given during the time of former Vice-Chancellor Farzana Islam. Two other teachers of the same department think that the issue of kinship has been considered as a qualification in the appointment of this university.. Suddenly Farzana Islam became the vice-chancellor of that university.

If someone has a relative and an influential person in this university, he becomes a teacher of the university very easily. Rumors are going on that campus. Daily Star News spoke to  jahangirnagar university teachers and learned that if you have influential people and relatives, this university can be recruited very easily. There is nothing to hide about this.

Various appointments have neither kinship nor party influence:

 The teachers inThere is talk of not only kinship but also party influence in various recruitments. The former president of that high school, Sohel Parvez, was appointed to the mathematics department in (2009). Along with Sohail, Mahmud Nasser was the general secretary of that committee (2006-2007). In 2009, Mahmudur Rahman, the former president of the university’s Chhatra League, was appointed. His wife was also appointed in the department of environmental science. She was appointed from March 2014 to 2022. On February 20, Mahmudur was dismissed for moral turpitude. However, in my time, there has been no appointment due to nepotism or the words of influential people. In 2012, the issue of appointing relatives of teachers and influential people in the university was widely discussed. At that time, the Vice-Chancellor was Prof. Sharif Enamul Kabir. After the Awami League government came to power in 2009, he was appointed as the vice-chancellor of the  Jahangirnagar university. After getting the appointment, teachers started to be appointed in different departments. In the first three years he appointed about 200 teachers.
