‘Hasbunallahu wa ni’mal wakil, ni’mal mawla wa niman nasir.’ This prayer is especially effective for sickness or anxiety, fear of harm or deliverance from enemies.Allah says in the Holy Qur’an about that .
Allah is Sufficient and Best Helper. There is no appeal to Allah like other supplications. The dua is so important that Hazrat Ibrahim (A.S.) and beloved Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) used to recite this dua in the most difficult times.
When Hazrat Ibrahim (A.S.) was thrown into the fire by the unbelieving tyrant Nimrud, he recited ‘Hasbunallahu wa ni’mal wakil’. As a result, Allah saved Hazrat Ibrahim (A.S.) from the fire.
In the Holy Qur’an, part of verse number 173 of Surah Al-Imran is ‘Hasbunallahu wa nimal wakil, ni’mal mawla wa niman nasir.’
Hasbunallahu wa ni’mal wakil
Hasbunallahu wa ni’mal wakil Bengali meaning: Allah is sufficient for us, and He is the best guide.
The context of this verse is that Muslims learn for the first time that they will participate in the Battle of Badr. Abu Sufyan’s trade journey, the arrival of the Quraysh of Makkah with a large force of 1,000 men were all being reported to the Muslims. Even though the Muslims had arrived at the Battle of Badr, their preparations were still in progress.
What was the mentality of the Companions in this situation, Allah says in the Holy Qur’an about that, ‘People told them that Allah says in the Holy Qur’an about that, ‘People told them thapeople have gathered against you. So fear them. Then this strengthened their faith and they said, “Sufficient is Allah for us, and He is the best of the taskmasters.” (Surah Ale Imran, verse 173)
Hearing the news that Rasul (PBUH) would be attacked by the polytheists, he recited the prayer at a place called Hamraul Asad. (Bukhari, Hadith: 4563)
When will you read Hasbunallahu wa Ni’mal Wakil?
Allah is called Wakil here. Wakil means guardian. When people entrust themselves to Allah in a moment of crisis, Allah Himself takes care of them and solves the problem.
Similarly, Surah Tawba verse 59 says, ‘If they had been satisfied with what Allah and His Messenger had given them, then it would have been said, and if they had said, Allah is sufficient for us. Allah will surely grant us soon from His grace and grant His Messenger; We are devotees of Allah. (Surah Tawba, verse 59)
Again, in the last verse of Surah Tawba, Allah says, ‘Then if they turn away, then say, Allah is sufficient for me; There is no god but Him. I rely on Him and He is the Lord of the Great Throne.’ (Surah Tawba, verse: 129)
Virtues of Hasbunallahu wa Ni’mal Wakil
Ibn Abbas (RA) said, when Ibrahim (A.S.) was thrown into the pit of fire, he said – HasbunAllahu wa Ni’mal Wakil. As a result he was saved. That burning fire had cooled down for him. Muhammad (pbuh) then said, ‘When the people said, the (disbelievers) have gathered to fight you. So you fear them.
Hasbunallahu wa ni’mal wakil
But this increased their faith and they said – Hasbunallahu wa ni’mal wakil. That is, Allah is sufficient for us and He is the best guide.’ The Companions practiced this prayer during the battle of Khandaq. When the Companions came to know that 10,000 soldiers were coming to besiege the city of Madinah, they still prayed to Allah for help saying – Hasbunallahi wa ni’mal wakil. (Bukhari: 4563-4564)
There is a hadith in Tirmidhi Sharif. The section in which the hadith is, is called, ‘What you will do in danger.’ Narrated by Hazrat Abu Saeed Khudri (RA). Rasulullah (SAW) said, ‘How can I be happy, while the trumpeter (Israfil to blow) is holding the trumpet in his mouth.
And he is listening to know when he will be ordered to blow and he will blow. The companions of Rasulullah (SAW) were terrified after hearing this. Seeing this, the Holy Prophet (PBUH) said to them, ‘You say, Hasbunallahu wa ni’mal wakil. (Tirmidhi: 2431, 3243)

Events of the time of Rasool (PBUH). A young man was healthy. Suddenly he fell ill. His health collapsed due to illness. Seeing him, it seemed that he would die at any time.
On hearing the news, the Prophet (PBUH) came to see him. How did this happen? Have you made a special prayer to God?
The young man said, you are right, I prayed to Allah, O Allah! May I get all the punishments I deserve in the hereafter. May I not suffer in the hereafter.
Rasul (pbuh) said, ‘What kind of prayer did you make? It is not right for you to do this prayer. Because no person can afford to suffer the punishment of the Hereafter in this world. Why don’t you pray easily?’
Saying this the Prophet (PBUH) taught him the supplication, ‘Rabbana Atina Fidduniya Hasanataon, Wafil Akhirati Hasanah, Wakina Azabannar.’ (Surah Baqarah, Verse: 201) Meaning: ‘And many of them say, O our Lord! Give us good in this life and good in the hereafter and save us from the torment of the fire.’

The throne of Allah was shaken by the death of the companion
Another incident. Companion Anas Ibn Malik (RA) was old at that time, unable to walk. A group of people from Basra came to him and said, ‘O Anas (RA), you have seen the Messenger (PBUH). We have come from Basra only to seek blessings from lucky people like you. Pray for us.’ Then Anas (RA) raised his hands in front of Allah with them and recited ‘Rabbana Atina Fidduniya’.
The people of Basra said, pray some more. Anas (RA) repeated this supplication. Anas (RA) prayed this several times.
said to them, ‘I have made the best dua.
This prayer started with Rabbana. Dua has three parts—1. Welfare of the world 2. Welfare of the hereafter and 3. Deliverance from hell fire.
There should be fear of rejection from Almighty Allah, and He will accept our requests, there should be hope. We should wish for the welfare That is why this prayer is so beautiful and important.
