State Minister Mohibbur Rahman said at yesterday’s event, “In the upcoming upazila elections, we have decided that we have announced Awami League’s revolutionary general secretary and martyred leader Abdul Motaleb Talukdar as a candidate from the party, from Awami League, as the upazila chairman.” Apart from this, as the vice chairman of the Upazila Awami League Office Secretary Md. He said that there will be many candidates in the election, but he has announced two leaders who have worked for the party and kept the party going in the difficult times as candidates from the party.

It is known that several leaders of upazila Awami League and allied organizations will be elected for the post of chairman and vice chairman ahead of the Kalapara upazila parishad election. Many of the candidates are spending a busy time mass connecting with the grassroots voters in

various haat-bazaars. In such a situation, many have termed such announcement of the state minister as ‘against party discipline’.

Jubo League central committee organizing secretary Shamim Al Saiful is doing mass communication locally to participate in the election for the post of upazila chairman. In response to the state minister’s statement, he told Prothom Alo, “Being a state minister, he cannot declare anyone as a candidate of the party at his own whim, going beyond the decision of the party.” Because, the president of the party and the honorable prime minister have already said that all local council elections including the upazila elections will be held without party symbols. None shall be party nominee.
